Auggie is different. He had a medical issue that left him with a deformed face. Auggie has been homeschooled all his life but now he is making the big leap into middle school. Auggie has been assigned some welcome buddies to help him around school. One of them will be nice, one will be a bully, and one will leave him alone him for the rest of the year. This book will make you remember what it was like to be in middle school. The bullies, and the friends. The ones who ignored you and the ones who didn’t. I loved this book and I hope you do to.

Design O

This book was so sad!!!!! It was so beautiful!!!! I cried through most of it!!! Auggie considers staying at home in the beginning and I wanted him to. It was so sad!!! I am sorry the book was just really sad. I am probably never going to read that book again. I don’t mean that it is a bad book. I just mean that it takes a lot to read that book. And I am not up for that twice.

The characters were really good. I enjoyed them a lot. I really liked the multiple points of view. I thought that was really cool. I felt like I was connected to the school and the kids in it. However, I didn’t like Justin’s chapter because I did not have proper punctuation. That really made me mad. I hit the book all through the chapter. But, I thought that the description of the kids was very accurate and it sounded a lot like the bullying that goes on in most public schools. I wish that bullying didn’t happen but it does and we have to do all we can to stop it. But, adults don’t do a good job. If they did there would be no more bullies. Right people?

The plot was also really good. I loved the idea. My friend got a book called Ugly. When she realized I was reading Wonder she offered to do a book swap when we were finished reading our books.  The plot made me feel sad on the inside. I mean it was supposed to do that so no harm done. I felt really sad while reading this book. I can promise that this will happen to you if you read this book. The writing style was beautiful(besides the Justin chapter) and I really enjoyed reading it a lot. The ending made me feel really happy. I did not kow whether to laugh or cry happy. All in all, I loved this book. It ment a lot to me, even though I will probably never read it again.

The Cry of the Icemark, by Stuart Hill — September 20, 2017

The Cry of the Icemark, by Stuart Hill

th (23)Thirrin Strong-In-The-Arm Lidenshield, Wildcat of the North is the new queen of Icemark. Icemark being the kingdom in the north where anything can happen. The Wildcat of the North is trying to survive and run a kingdom at only thirteen. The Wildcat of the North is trying to defend her kingdom from the Empire, who would like to make a province out of Icemark, enslave it’s people, and then strip mine the land. Wildcat’s father has left Wildcat a challenge. The challenge is to befriend and make allies with anyone who can win the war. So Wildcat goes on an epic quest to befriend the: Werewolves, Vampirers, and Snow Leopards(also known as Icesheets). We wish Thirrin Strong-In-The-Arm Lidenshield, Wildcat of the North best of luck in her war.Design O

I did have some issues with this book. But it was okay in general. Some parts were very good but most of it was okay. I found the idea of a bad ass girl punching werewolves in the nose very good. I loved that part. The Wildcat of the North is very sassy. Like the Queen of Sass. But I liked that part. This book showcases bravery. And giant talking leopards.

I loved the giant talking leopards. I did loves the other characters too, but I loved the giant talking leopards the most. All the creatures were done beautifully but I was wondering more about the back stories. I think that there should have been a book or two before this one to get all that in there. All the women in this book were really empowering. All the characters in this book were really empowering. Except for the villains. The were horrible. I hated them. Which is why they were good. The author did really well on this part of the book. I did think that this part was done very well. Except for the flaws. But there wern’t a lot of those.

The plot was okay. I did think that you do not need a hundred or so pages in a book for a battle. And a lot of that was the same thing repeated over and over again. It really killed my soul. But I did like the three hundred pages devoted to finding the allies. It was very interesting. But most of this book was character driven. About 80% of this book was character driven and 20% was the plot. And that 20%? That was the battle scene that was dragged out to long. But don’t get me wrong. I really liked the book. I just didn’t like some parts of it. I think that the author needed to have tried harder. Which isn’t that bad. I really do recommend this book. If you can look past the flaws.

That was my third book for the TBR reading challenge. Only two more. Please remember to fill out my survey!!!!! You can find the link on the about page. Alphas, by Lisi Harrison — September 17, 2017

Alphas, by Lisi Harrison

Title: Alphas

Author: Lisi Harrison

Publisher: Poppy

Summary in one Sentence: Girls go to the Alpha Academy to learn how to be the best of the best but only one Alpha can rise to the top.Design O

What I Thought:

Alphas is amazing!!!! It tells what it means to the best of the best. The sacrifices that you have to take and the friends that you make along the way. I felt very strongly about the way that all the girls were really beautiful. Some girls are not that beautiful. Deal With It. You don’t need to talk like everyone is beautiful.

The characters were pretty good. I enjoyed most of them. Since all the girls were beautiful there had to be hot guys too, right? Well the answer is yes. There were five hot boys. Five hot girls. Five hot boys. Are you getting anything here? I know I am. Shockingly, there is no kissing in this book. There is talk about kissing but no kissing. I feel shocked. I am shocked. This does not usually happen. But I do think that no kissing helped move the book. Wait, there was one kissing scene. Want to know what it is? Read the book to find out.

The plot was interesting. The school was good for the best of the best girls could have been very empowering. But instead, they make all the main characters beautiful and make them run off to see hot boys. And the only classes we heard about were writing class and dance class. That sort of rubbed my fur the wrong way. I wanted a list of classes that I heard about in descriptive detail. And then when some of the girls started getting sent home I felt really sad. The plot was interesting but not that good.

10 Reasons Why I Like Reading So Much — September 15, 2017

10 Reasons Why I Like Reading So Much

Cool-Text-258646360243698I have decided that I will do a weekly post called Fun Friday!!!!!! Fun Friday is just something to do if you like connecting with your readers. The rule for Fun Friday is that all you need to do is write a fun post on a Friday. And if you want to do this then you need to link back to me, as the maker of this weekly post. For this week’s Fun Friday post I am doing: 15 Reasons Why I Like Reading So Much. So… without farther ado lets start this post.

  1. Reading takes me to faraway places that I will probably never see in my lifetime. It gets really descriptive and whenever I am bored I can just dive into one of those worlds and pretend to be someone I’m not. That is one of my favorite things to do when I am bored.
  2. Reading teaches me lessons and I can quote things from books and no one will know what I said. I can quote something from The Book Thief, (one of the best books in the world if you have not read it you need to) and no one knows what I am saying.
  3. The characters are some of my best friends. I understand them perfectly and even though they don’t know me I think that if I met one of the in real life we would become BFFs.
  4. I can connect to other people, mainly you guys, about books and we can fangirl/fanboy over all the of the beautiful books that I read.
  5. The books can be my safe house. If I am feeling stressed then I can pick up a book and start reading. After that it will all be okay.
  6.  I just love the words. That speaks for itself.
  7. All the diversity. Everyone is different in books. I felt really happy when I read Six of Crows and everyone was different.
  8. All of the animals that are in books make me happy for some reason. I want to have them all.
  9. In the hopes that I will one day be an author. Reading these books will give me experience.
  10. Everything!!!!!!!

Well how did my first Fun Friday post go? Please remember to fill out my survey. You can find the link on my about page. Tanks for Reading!!!!! Have a Great Day!!!!!!! -Annalee and Buttons

The Hired Girl, by Laura Amy Schlitz — September 13, 2017

The Hired Girl, by Laura Amy Schlitz

Joan is a country girl who lives in Pennsylvania. Her father runs a farm and doesn’t let her go to school. Well, he used to let her go to school but now he doesn’t. So now Joan has to do farm work and run the house. Well, Joan doesn’t like this, so she runs away from home to become a hired girl. She becomes a hired girl for a Jewish family and learns about Jewish culture while trying to become a Catholic. She gets very vain and loves her clothes. Well, poor little Joan might lose it all…

I was not sure about this book when I picked it up. It sounded like someone’s sob story. I was right!!!!!! This blog post is not going to be that long because I cram everything that I felt about this book into one paragraph. I didn’t like the main character that much. She was a big whiner. She just whined and whined and whined some more. I thought that this would be a good historical fiction novel. I was wrong. Do not ever read this book. It was horrible. I am serious. Everything was stupid. Trust me.

NEVER READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!! I mean it. Please fill out my survey. You can find the link on my about page. Do you think that I should start doing a weekly meme? Please answer in the comments!!!!! Thanks for Reading!!!!! Have a Great Day!!!!!! -Annalee and Buttons

zmy star rating is Zero stars. This book was garbage.

The Outsiders, by S. E. Hinton —

The Outsiders, by S. E. Hinton

downloadPonyboy is a greaser. A greaser is a poor person. They fight to live. The greasers fight the Socs. The Socs are the rich kids. Ponyboy’s parents were killed and he lives with his brothers now. It is their way of life. Ponyboy and his brothers are in a gang with friends. The greasers stick together and have an unbreakable bond. Sometimes, Socs jump greasers. During one of those times, where Ponyboy was with Jonny, someone takes it to far. Someone gets killed. Jonny and Ponyboy are on the run now.

Design OI thought that this book was very deep. It had a lot of messages in it. Like, everyone is equal. Sometimes I felt like crying because this book was so deep and true. If you want the truth on how things are in life you need to read this book. I mean it. This book is brutal. It will tell you things that you might think are shocking. Or terrible. It just gets really frank and sad. I trust that you will understand how much I love this book.

Ponyboy. Oh, Ponyboy. I loved you with all my heart. You were my beloved. You are now one of my many book boyfriends. I do actually have one of those. I cried when some things happened and I smiled for you when good things happened. Ponyboy never realized how much everyone cared for him. He frequently stated how he thought that Darry didn’t care for him. That was so wrong. Everyone cared for Ponyboy. I loved all the characters. I was really sad when some died. *running around screaming about how it cannot end this way* I am sorry. I have composed myself. It is just that these characters will move you. So, if you read this book, prepare to be moved.

The plot was okay. It was not great. The plot brought the book to midway. But the characters brought the book home. I think that part of the plot was to watch Ponyboy grow as a person. Which he did. I felt super into the plot, even though it was not what I had hoped. The plot was really good for the first half of the book. Then it tuned down to okay. That sort of annoyed me. But by the half of the book, you were moved enough. You had cried enough. You will cry. If you do not like crying over books, do not read this book. I repeat, if you do not like crying over books, do not read this book. You will cry and you will laugh. It is just the nature of this book.

The setting in this book is okay. I don’t have much to say about it.  I liked the church and was sad that it was burned. I was also sad that so many people died because of the church burning. I don’t know what that symbolizes but it symbolizes something. When I find out I will edit this blog post to include it.

Design O

Well, I did like this book. This is one of the five books that I wnat to read for the TBR readathon. You all know what I am going to give this book. Please remember to fill out my survey. The Mark of the Dragonfly, by Jaleigh Jhonson — September 12, 2017

The Mark of the Dragonfly, by Jaleigh Jhonson

th (21)Piper is a scrapper at Scrap Town Sixteen. A scrapper picks up things that fall from the meteor storms and then sell them. The meteor storms are deadly. There is poison in the gas that goes up when the meteor hits the ground. Piper and her friend Micah go out into the meteor storm and a giant meteor hits the caravan. Micah is hit by the debris and might die. When Piper goes to the caravan to find medical supplies she also finds a girl who survived in the caravan. What she finds out tells her that the girl is amazing, stunning, and maybe not human.

Design OThis book was okay. That is a four word summary. The characters were okay, the plot was okay, the setting was okay. It seemed like the author got to the point to where it could be classified as mediocre and then stopped. It made me really sad. The book could have been a really good action novel but it didn’t make the cut. I felt sort sad while reading this book because it could have been way better. And I mean way better. There were some parts of this book where I could see what the autthor was trying to get at but she did not make it. There were some action scenes that could have been way better, same with the love scenes. I think that from this paragraph you might already know what I am going to give this book.

The characters. The characters were okay. The two people that were supposed to be together by the end of the book (I think that is what she wanted?) I did not really get. There were no serious love scenes in this book. I think that the author tried to put some in. But she failed. All the characters were okay. They were very bland. Everything was bland. I was thinking of DNFing this book because it was so boring. This was one of the most boring books that I have ever read in my life. I think that I am going to stop here because I will only say the same thing over and over again. Everything was boring.

The Inquisitor’s Tale, by Adam Gidwitz — September 9, 2017

The Inquisitor’s Tale, by Adam Gidwitz

th (20)The King has declared war. Not on another country, or anything of use. The King has declared war on three children, and their magical dog. Gwenforte, is the magical saint dog. She came back from the dead. Jeanne, is the peasant girl. Jeanne has fits that tell the future. William, is the African oblate who has lived at the monstary since he was a baby. William has super strength. Jacob, is the Jewish boy. Jews are being abused right now. Jacob, can heal people with a few plants and a prayer. People are calling these children saints. They are doing miracles. They have joined together to stop a Jewish book burning. There is one question though: Will they survive?

Design O

If you have not picked up The Inquisitor’s Tale you must pick it up now. I command you to. That is right, Annalee @ Buttons Book Reviews is commanding you to read this book. That is how good it is. I trust in you guys to read this book. But really, this book is amazing, with only a few flaws. I loved this book. Loved it. Any book is good compared to the Red Queen. Well, mostly any book. My poor sweet Maven betrayed me!!!!!! But, either way, I still hated the book. I am not here to talk about that pile of crap. I am here to talk about a funny tale of angles, saints, dogs, and knights. That is right, that is what half of the book is about. Now, let me tell you how wonderful this book is.

The characters are amazing. The little saint group is very diverse. As I said in my summary. I did say it in my summary if you want to reread it. I did have some issues with how William was treated. He was a big African and everybody called him a demon or a brigade (I think that is how the fancy word for bandit was spelled). Not everyone would have treated him like that. But I could understand why he was being treated like the way he was. King Louis was just a hot mess. He said that he hated peasants and Jews, but he had no problems hugging Jeanne and twirling her in the air, and he had no problems talking to Jacob and sitting next to him on the carriage ride. I was very annoyed at that.

Now for the plot. The plot was very good. Just like the characters were. I loved the way everyone was gathered in a bar and they all had some connection to the saint children, so they swapped stories about them. And the Inquisitor listened. I was very impressed with that sort of writing style. The plot was written very well. It got very suspenseful at times. I was chewing my nails asking myself if it was going to turn out ok. It did but I loved the suspense. For a good book, I require a very good plot, very good characters, a very good world, and a very good writing style. All of which I got in this book. I loved the book to the bottom of my soul.

The setting was probably my favorite part of the book. It is the most descriptive setting I have read in ages. I felt like I had lived there all my life when that book was finished. I felt deep connections to every person I passed while reading this book. All the bookish characters of course. The setting was by far the best setting that I have read in my life. And I have read a lot of books in my life. When I say a lot I mean a lot. I normally read one book a day. Which means 365 books a year. Which is very impressive if you ask me. Most people do. The only reason I am off schedule is because of Red Queen and school is back. Well, I did love this book and the only flaws it had were character flaws.

Design O

I loved The Inquisitor’s Tale a lot but it did have some flaws in it. They were not major flaws but I still cannot give this book 5 stars. Please fill out my survey. You can find the link on my about page. Thanks for Reading!!!!! Have a Great Day!!!!! -Annalee and Buttons

Red Queen, by Victoria Aveyard — September 7, 2017

Red Queen, by Victoria Aveyard

downloadMare Barrow is a Red. A Red is different from a Silver. The Silvers are the powerful ones. The Reds are weak. The Silvers are the ones with the talents. Or powers. You can choose. Mare will try to survive in the Red world. She steals from the richer Reds to take care of her family. She wants to get a job to save herself from going to the war. And dying. Then a Silver gives her a job serving in the royal palace. During the Queenstrial, she falls onto the lightning shield. When Mare does not die, the king and queen proclaim that she is a lost Silver child. All the while, knowing that her blood is red. They tell her that if she messes this up they will kill her.

Design O

First of all, I hated Mare. So, first she hates Silvers. Then, she loves Silvers. Really, that was just sad. I think that most people agreed with me. Everyone says that they hate Mare. I support you. All the characters besides them were okay. Except, for Maven. He was like, I love the Reds!!! Then at the end of the book, it was not the same person. That give me some issues. It killed me. I trusted Maven. That was not realistic. The 2 main characters were not realistic. The book had some issues. I hated that part. Hated that part. The book made me sad.

The plot was maybe the only good part in this book. I did say only. But, even the plot could have been better. That was the most annoying part. Everything could have been better. Way better. It was so annoying!!!!! I was going mad reading the book. I read the book so slow because I did not want to read it. But I did want to read it. The summary had me hooked but that did not mean that the book was good. I felt like crying halfway through the book but since I had nothing else to read I had to read this one. I really hope that the next book is better then this one. I will read the next book, in the hopes that it will be better.

The setting was okay. I liked it but it could have been better. Like, way better. Everything could have been way better. I have heard good and bad about this book, I was hoping that I would like it but I did not. Sorry. I feel better about myself by getting this off of my back. I would not have felt proud of myself if I said that I loved the book. Or even that it was okay. I understand that some people loved this book. I get it. Everyone likes different things. all the Silvers were horrible. The Reds were needy. And, the way the Silvers beat the Reds was evil and brutal.

Design O

This is just not a good book. I did not like it. Please remember to fill out my survey. You can find the like on my about page. I cannot wait to post again. Thanks for Reading!!!!! Have a Great Day!!!!!! -Annalee and Buttons
