downloadMillie Michalchuk has gone to fat camp every year since she was a girl. Not this year. This year she has new plans to chase her secret dream—and to kiss her crush. Callie Reyes is the pretty girl who is next in line for dance team captain and has the popular boyfriend. But when it comes to other girls, she’s more frenemy than a friend. When circumstances bring the girls together over the course of a semester, they will surprise everyone (especially themselves) by realizing they might have more in common than they ever imagined.

This book was amazing!!! It wasn’t really a sequel (which I expected it would be) but it was a great companion novel. All of the characters, plot, and setting were just as good as Dumplin’. All opinions are entirely my own and have not been influenced in any way.

The writing style was so amazing!!! I feel like I’ve been waiting for a style like this for ages. It felt as if I was in a desert and had just been given water again. It makes me want to go up and get the rest of Ms. Murphy’s books. I want to learn as much as I can about her writing style so that I can achieve something like it in my own writing. I was amazed by how it stayed constantly point blank throughout switching POVs and totally different characters’ thoughts.

I loved the characters so much and they were all so precious!! I actually ended up liking Callie way more than I thought I would. Same with Millie. I expected to love Willowdean and still love her throughout the book. But Millie and Callie turned out to be amazing people on their own, but even better together. I wanted them to be happy together and become an epic girl team that didn’t take anything. I wanted them to support each other and THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED!!!!! I loved it so much and I want to see what happens to them so badly!!! If Ms. Murphy writes another book about these amazing girls I will die!!!

There was so much diversity in this book. There was a biromantic asexual person (who I’m not going to mention if you want to know then read the book), many people with different skin colors and many different reactions to this. Some of which made me hate certain characters. I loved the way that everybody reacted to discrimination, it seemed totally in character for them and I was proud of some characters for standing up for other characters. I loved that so much. I just wish that we got a book from Hannah’s POV. Now, that would be interesting.

The plot was also so so well-written. I haven’t read any books about journalism camp and the fact that Millie was trying to get into one was amazing to me. I would love to do something like that (if there was only a camp like that for writers). I wish that I had a squad like Millie’s and hope that one day they will all be happy. I loved the way that Ms. Murphy kept me constantly on my toes as to what would happen next. I couldn’t predict anything and now I wish that I had bought this book instead of taking it out at the library.

I loved this book so much and recommend the whole series to everyone!!! If you have ever doubted yourself for your body than this book is for you. Honestly, pick this book up. I got the summary from the inside cover. Remember to fill out my survey. You can find the link to it on my About page. Thanks for Reading!!! Have a Great Day!!! -Annalee and Buttons
