Gemina, by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

download (1)When the space station Heimdall is invaded, Hannah and Nik must work together to defeat the enemy.

This book was perfect!!! I was engrossed in it from the very first page and I cannot wait to read Obsidio. Gemina is basically about the leader of Jump Station Heimdall’s daughter and a criminal joining up to kick BiTech off of Jump Station Heimdall. So, as might you might imagine, this book blew me away. It is also the sequel to Illuminae, so that might explain it. I can’t wait to read more of Jay and Amie’s work, and I can’t wait to read more of their works.

When Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman write a novel together, you know that it is going to be amazing. And it lived up to my very high expectations. I was concerned that Gemina would fall into the bad second book trap, but it didn’t. When Amie and Jay work together, they create their own unique style that none of them have on their own. I was (as always) very impressed with Amie and Jay’s ability to make their characters realistic and their plot have all of the twists and turns that a book formatted as usual has.

Hanna and Nik were such amazing characters!! I also loved that Kady had a brief cameo. Hanna and Nik worked very well together and I wish that I worked that way with other people. All of the characters were very developed and I enjoyed reading about them. BiTech is the villain that I love to hate, and I can’t wait to read more about them in the next book. I can’t wait to see what Hanna and Kady do together, because whatever it is, it will be glorious. Wherever these characters go, I will be happy to follow them.

Gemina Quotes

I was amazed when I learned that Marie Lu had drawn Hanna’s journal entries. I didn’t even though that Marie could draw. I loved the style of her art and I wish that my artwork was as good as hers(because my art sucks). I loved how Marie could portray the feelings of Hanna through her art. It really emphasized the talent that she has. I was very impressed with Marie’s style and all of the sass that was conveyed through her art. I love Marie Lu’s art, and I hope that there will be more of her drawings in Obsidio.

The plot in this book was very straightforward. But that doesn’t mean that it was predictable. I was constantly on the edge of my seat. Some plot twists I could figure out, but some I couldn’t. That didn’t impact my opinion of Gemina in the least, though. The plot was also fairly unique, or maybe I’m just not reading very many sci-fi novels. I loved the way that Amie and Jay worked together to create this masterpiece. I still want to know how people can successfully collaborate and end up with something like this.

I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read Obsidio. I highly recommend anything by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I got the summary from the Library of Congress. Ice Wolves, by Amie Kaufman — October 10, 2018

Ice Wolves, by Amie Kaufman

download (1)Everyone in Vallen knows that ice wolves and scorch dragons are sworn enemies who live deeply separate lives. So when twelve-year-old orphan Anders takes one elemental form and his twin sister, Rayna, takes another, he wonders whether they are even related. Still, whether or not they’re family, Rayna is Anders’s only true friend.

This book was amazing!!! I loved it so much and cannot wait for the sequel!!! This is the first book by Amie Kaufman that I’ve read where she’s not co-authoring with someone. I loved the writing style, plot, and characters. I also loved how the most important relationship in this book was that of the twins.

Ms. Kaufman’s writing style was brilliant! I loved how talented Ms. Kaufman was and how she always wrote with hope. This is Ms. Kaufman’s first book that she hasn’t co-authored with anyone on and she did great. Her writing is so different from when she co-authors. I loved how well Ms. Kaufman described everything and how she wrote dialogue. Her writing is exquisite and I hope that she writes more books that are not co-authored. Ms. Kaufman’s style is very addictive and I can’t wait to read another book by her, co-authored or not.

The characters were perfect!!!! I loved Anders so so much!!! He was so sweet and pure and I loved him with all of my heart. Anders and Rayna had a great relationship and I was so happy to read a book without any romantic intent, whatsoever. There was a lot of love between siblings and I was all for that. I loved how sweet all of the characters were and can’t wait to read more about them. Lisabet was an amazing side character and she didn’t get enough credit for all the help that she gave to Anders.

The relationship between the twins was so sweet!!! It reminded me of the relationship I have with my sisters, except it was more peaceful. I loved how Rayna and Anders looked out for each other. It seemed like something that normal siblings/twins would do. I loved how Rayna and Anders planned. Their rules were very interesting and I would like to think that I would have made up something similar if I was on the streets with my siblings. Rayna and Anders were very different but they worked together well and I admired them for that. And, for own their moments of brilliance that only happened when the other twin was around.

Ice Wolves Quotes

The plot was amazing!!! If you were following my reading this book on Goodreads then you know what I am talking about. I was engrossed in this book from the first page when Rayna and Anders were talking about pickpocketing. The plot was very well written and Amie Kaufman is evidently a very talented author. This book also was able to divide the planning and action. But, for once, I think that there was a little bit more planning than action. All in all, I can’t wait for Ice Wolves #2.

This book was excellent and I can’t wait for the sequel!!! I highly recommend anything by Amie Kaufman. I got the summary from the Library of Congress. Remember to fill out my survey. You can find the link to it on my About page. Thanks for Reading!!! Have a Great Day!!! -Annalee and Buttons

Illuminae, by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff — June 27, 2018

Illuminae, by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

downloadThe planet Kerenza is attacked, and Kady and Ezra find themselves on a space fleet fleeing the enemy, while their ship’s artificial intelligence system and a deadly plague may be the end of them all.

This book was absolutely amazing!!!! I loved it so much!!!! I think that this book was perfect the way that it was. The way that the book was written, with the text files and the security records, made this book what it was. If it was written classically, I don’t think that it would have been as good. If you want to hear more of my thoughts then you should read the rest of my post.

The characters were beautiful!!! Even though they weren’t written classically, they were just like normal characters. There was a lot of development and the characters all became more likable as the book progressed, not that I didn’t like them in the beginning, I just liked them more as the book went on. I kept changing my opinion on who I liked more, which is odd because normally I have a favorite and I stick with it. The characters were all amazing and I loved them all with all of my heart.

My favorite character in this book was AIDAN. The insane AI. I’m sure that says some concerning things about me but who cares. This thing was amazing. I wanted to know how it worked and learn as much about it as I could. This thing also asked a lot of good questions and acted like a person. A mentally ill person to be sure, but still a person. I think that AIDAN was the most interesting character in the book, once again it’s not that the other characters are all boring, it’s just that AIDAN was that one that interested me the most.

The plot was intense. The story starts off intense and it doesn’t stop. I think that it gets more intense as the book goes on. I don’t read very many sci-fi novels but if they’re all as good as this I’ll definitely pick up some more. I loved how the action was portrayed through the formatting of the book. It was amazing that I could know what was happening and have feelings about it when the format was text messages and security camera records. It takes a good writer to do that. This book is lucky that there were two.

The setting was also very impressive. As I said above, it takes very good writers to write a setting through text messages and security cams. But by the end, I knew where I was and who was in charge and everything that I needed to know. And then I learned some more things that I would rather have not known and would be happy to live without. I don’t need to know so much about the plague, thank you very much. But all in all, the setting was very well written, just like the rest of the book.

I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait until I can buy the next one. I highly recommend it. The summary came from the Library of Congress. Please remember to fill out my survey. You can find a link to it on my about page. Thanks for Reading!!!! Have a Great Day!!!! -Annalee and Buttons
