The True Blue Scouts of Sugar Man Swamp, by Kathi Appelt — August 20, 2017

The True Blue Scouts of Sugar Man Swamp, by Kathi Appelt

th (16)My cousins gave this to me as a present last year and I am very happy to finally read and review it. I loved this book so much.

OMG the raccoons are so adorable!!! They are to cute for words!!!! I love them so much!!!! *runs around room screaming* Calm down Annalee. Remember breathing exercises. In and out, in and out. There we go, I am all better now. I love those racoons. To much. They are so  adorable. They are so smart and sweet and caring!!! The racoons are my favorite characters in the book.

All of the characters are very good. The author impresses with how quickly the book moved along. I was very pleased with the world building as well. Everything coexisted very happily. The villains were horrible, like villains were supposed to be. This book was perfect in every way. It is why I wanted to become a book blogger in the first place. Why are more people not reading this book?

What I liked most about this book was the multiple character view points. So authors do this horribly but Appelt did it wonderfully. I was very happy with the results. I think that the racoons were portrayed the best. Appelt also added little bits of humor through the book. But, while doing this she also talk about how deforestation was bad. If I had just read a book that said that deforestation was bad I probably would have DNFed it.

I think that everyone should read this book. It teaches everyone a lesson and you learn to respect animals because they think too. And for BookPrincess they have a Texas version of Sasquatch, the Sugar Man. But to learn more about him you have to read the book.

The villains were horrible. I thought that it was best if they were dead. I think that this is the best punishment for them. There were two of them. A boy and a girl. Two people that I hate. A lot. Every day of my life I will hate them. Even in my death I will hate them. I am glad that I have found a villain that I have hated.

This book is perfect. It makes me happy to even think about it.

Beautiful Creatures, by Kami Garcia and Margaret Sthol — July 23, 2017

Beautiful Creatures, by Kami Garcia and Margaret Sthol

th (9)Living in the town of Gatlin, where nothing ever changes, Ethan Wate has a normal life. He goes to basketball practice, dates pretty girls, and pretty much lives up to the expectations of everyone in the town. That is, until Lena Duchannes comes to town. Everyone hates Lena. She lives with the town shut-in, Macon Ravenwood, she drives a hearse, and her family does not have a pedgriee dating back to the Civil War. OR the Revolutionary War. So, Lena is an outcast. Everyone teases her in school and calls her a witch. Everyone that is, except Ethan. Ethan comes to understand Lena, her powers, and her family. And Ethan’s family comes to understand Lena. Lena and Ethan become boyfriend and girlfriend. But only for so long. Lena’s sixteenth birthday is coming. And with it, great change. Do Ethan and Lena really have forever?

What I Liked
  • Ethan: Ethan always tries so hard to achieve his dreams. He used to go with the flow, even when it was not right. Now Ethan stands up for everyone and everything. Ethan’s character grows a lot in this one book.
  • Amma: Amma reminds of a voodoo grandmother. the one who sticks charms in your socks on your birthday and remembers what everyone’s favorite cake is. Even though Amma is not the nicest, she cares for Ethan like the mother he doesn’t have.
  • Gatlin: Gatlin is really mean. But if you are one of Gatlin, Gatlin will claim you, look out for you, and love you. But if your not of Gatlin, then you will never be one of Gatlin.
 What I Disliked
  • Lena: Lena was a bit too sad for me. After a week of trying to achieve something she just gives up. Lena could have stayed a bit more positive throught the books.
  • Ridley: Ridley changed by the end of the first book but I still hate her. She forced people to do her bidding without letting them choose. And she thought she was making Lena happy but she actually Just made it worse.

Beautiful Creatures is a pretty good book. You will never get bored and you will never want to put it down. I reccomend that you read this book. Four Stars. Thanks for Reading!!!! Have a Great Day!!!! -annaleeliz and Buttons

Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh — July 16, 2017

Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh

downloadThank you to everyone who rated this book. You have successfully convinced me to read this book.

Mariko was not supposed to have been tried to murder. But she was. Mariko thinks that the Black Clan tried to murder her. So she decides to infiltrate the Black Clan to see who paid the Black Clan to try and kill her. After all, the Black Clan does not usually rob norimonos with women and children in them. Mariko does not really care that the norimono is burned but she does care that someone tried to kill her. Mariko was always called strange because she wanted to learn things, and opposed to being carted around the country like common goods to marry some unknown prince. Mariko loves find out the answers to questions. So, when the Black Clan captures her she decides to find the answers to her questions. But, Mariko finds friends, love, and so much more.

What I Liked
  • Mariko: Mariko is so strong. She is what everyone would want in a strong YA leading lady. Her plan though simple was very intelligently devised. I think that Mariko might be one of my favorite leading ladies of all time.
  • The Plot Twist: The plot twist was amazing!!!!!!!  I was thinking, this plot is so boring, and then BOOM. The book lead me away from my beautiful train of thought and into uncharted plot territory. I loved it!!!
  • Kension: Kension loved his sister so much. The love made me cry. Kension did some bad things, but only to find his sister. His unstopping hunt for Mariko was so sweet. Even though it did turn out bad for everyone in the end. Kension may have been my favorite character in the book.
What I Disliked
  • Raiden: Raiden was not the bad guy. But I still hated him. I think that Raiden will abuse Mariko (his wife) quite a bit. A husband who abuses his wife is a bad guy. I hate people who do that.
  • The Tree: So there was a tree in the book. I don’t know it’s name. it drank people’s blood. I think that is just cruel. Think of this: You were hungry and you stole some food. You got caught and sorry, your thrown to the tree to die. To me that is just wrong.
  • Raiden’s Stepmom: Raiden’s stepmom was just mean. At the end of the book she pushed her husband’s head into his favorite pond and accused a servant of doing it. She was a terrible person.

Well, Flame of the Mist is a really good book. Everyone should read it. I think that if you don’t like this book then you don’t have feelings. Four Stars. Thanks for Reading!!!! Have a Great Day!!!! -annaleeliz and Buttons

MARCH Book Three, by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell — July 6, 2017

MARCH Book Three, by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell

th (6)By the end of 1963, the Civil Rights Movement has penetrated deep into the  consciousness of many Americans. But there is still resistance for African Americans voting. Every person should have the right to vote. That is not what some other people think. Which can be a problem. Every one tries to help, by registering people to vote, by picketing outside the courthouse, and by marching. But the police are just as ruthless. They have cattle prods, clubs, and tear gas. Some of the people in power, like Governor George Wallace, hate African Americans and don’t care if they get hurt or go to jail. George Wallace also encourages people to hurt the African Americans. Some governor. But other people like Martin Luther King encourage nonviolence and thirty understand that it is better to be nice than to be powerful. But can people like Martin Luther King get African Americans the right to vote?

After I post this book review I will be out of books!!!!!! I need to go to the library today. But at least all the books I checked out were good. I loved  MARCH Book Three!!!! It was amazing!!!! Once again I have nothing bad to say. It is a miracle!!!! I know, the next books I read are probably going to not be as good, or awesome as these. Because this series is my new favorite series. As soon as I buy my own copies they will go onto the beautiful favorites bookshelf. I love these books!!!!!! Five Stars. Thanks for Reading!!! Have a Great Day!!! -annaleeliz and Buttons

MARCH Book One, by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell — July 5, 2017

MARCH Book One, by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell

downloadMARCH Book One is the first book in the March Trilogy. All three books are titled MARCH. John Lewis also was one of the key civil rights leaders who empowered many others to join the movement. Which is a good thing. He also spoke at The March on Washington. He spoke 6th and Martin Luther King Jr. spoke 10th. But this is not an autobiography. This is a book that empowers people to do something to be the change in the world. March Book One talks about John Lewis’ childhood, his amazing meeting with Martin Luther King Junior, the Nashville Student Movement, and their efforts to tear down the lunch counter segregation leading to the climax at City Hall. Years and years ago, John Lewis and the Nashville Student Movement drew inspiration from a comic book called Martin Luther King and the Montgomery Story. Now John Lewis is making his own comics for people to drawn inspiration from.

This book is amazing!!!!! I loved it!!! And it is a comic!!!! *runs around the room and screams* I have not read comics since I was seven. And those were horrible. These are great. I am reading the second one as soon as I finish writing this post. I think that this book is as close to perfect as a book can get. Everyone should read this book. I mean it. Read this book!!!!!!! I want you to read to read this book. I think that it should win an award. Five Stars. Thanks for Reading!!! Have a Great Day!!! -annaleeliz and Buttons

Girl With A Camera, by Carolyn Meyer — July 1, 2017

Girl With A Camera, by Carolyn Meyer

download (1)This the historical fiction/biography of Margaret Bourke-White, one of the first female photographers in America. It tells about Margaret’s life in great detail. From the deaths and sorrows in her family, to the great joys and parties that she has. Margaret goes through life with great bravery and spirit. Especially when others tell her that she cannot do a job because she is a woman. The book ends when she is single, which is not expected in that time because woman are expected to care for the house, husband, and children. Girl With A Camera also shows when Margaret was not rich and famous. She was once quite poor. It also shows some of the pictures she took. It talks about the books she writes with her second husband. From whom she gets divorced. This book talks about the life of Margaret Bourke-White and it does not skimp out on the details.

This book is amazing. When I picked this up I thought, okay, this will just be a time killer. And then I could not put it down. That is how good it is. I mean I had never heard of Margaret Bourke-White before today. And now I want to know more. The author left off right in the middle of her life. What Happens Next? Please tell me!!!!! My one problem with this book was that it did not tell you what the people around Margaret were feeling. I only connected with Margaret, no one else. I like to connect with at least 3 characters in a book. But I could only connect with 1. All in all it was a pretty good book. Four Stars. Thanks for Reading!!! Have a Great Day!!! -annaleeliz and Buttons

Holes, by Louis Sachar — June 18, 2017

Holes, by Louis Sachar

downloadStanley Yelnats thinks that he is under a curse placed by his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. Because of this “curse” Stanley is always in the wrong place at the wrong time. Because he is overweight, he gets bullied. And when he finds some old smelly sneakers on the freeway he does not realize that they are the sneakers of a famous baseball player. So Stanley gets arrested and gets sent to a boys detention center called Camp Green Lake. The Warden at Camp Green Lake thinks that digging a hole 5ft deep and 5ft wide builds character. So each boy at Camp Green Lake has to dig a hole 5ft deep and 5ft wide. The Warden says that the kids are digging to build character but Stanley thinks that is something else.

Stanley thinks that Camp Gr een Lake is not what it seems to be. Can Stanley figure out the mystery of Camp Green Lake before someone gets hurt?

Holes is so funny!!!! There are some flashbacks into the past and the past is a romance that can never be. It can be really sad at times but that is why I consider a modern classic. Everyone should read it. Sadly the romance parts are not cheesy romance but classic romance. Sorry Book Princess. So the book starts off slow but gets better as  it goes along. Right now I am painting my nails green instead of red like the Warden’s nails. But it is the thought that counts. I really enjoyed Holes. Five Stars. Thanks for Reading!!!! Have a Great Day!!!! -annaleeliz and Buttons

I Will Always Write Back, by Caitlin Alifirenka and Martin Gada With Liz Welch — June 17, 2017

I Will Always Write Back, by Caitlin Alifirenka and Martin Gada With Liz Welch

downloadCaitlin’s English teacher assigned her class to pick a country and write a letter to someone living there. Caitlin chooses the country of Zimbabwe. Because the class does not know who will receive their letter they have to address it as Hello.

Martin knows that he is lucky to receive a letter at all. Only the smartest kids in the grade get a letter. Martin tells Caitlin about his life in Zimbabwe and his family, friends, and school.

Caitlin and Martin could not have known how they would both change each other’s lives. They help each other realize their dreams and how they can achieve those dreams. They could not have possibly known how much Caitlin would help Martin. Caitlin learns how lucky she is and Martin learns that it is okay to ask for help. This is a book about empowerment, helping others, realizing dreams, and making long-lasting friends.

I Will Always Write Back is an amazing book. Apparently it is also a true story. I Will Always Write Back shows that anyone can help someone. Without donating to an organization. If you have not read this book you totally should. Caitlin also has school problems and family problems. This is really human and I am glad to encounter a character(real or not) that actually has social problems along with the problem they are trying to solve. I think that the authors could have put more of the letters in the book. That is my only compliant about I Will Always Write Back. Four Stars. Do you have any book suggestions for me? Thanks for Reading!!! Have a Great Day!!!! -annaleeliz and Buttons

The Isle of Brigadoon by J. S. Fields —

The Isle of Brigadoon by J. S. Fields

downloadJ. S Fields sent me the file for The Isle of Brigadoon when he sent me the file for Center of Magic(you can read the review here). Thank You for sending me the file for this book. I dedicate this review to you.

After escaping the evil Source Ambrose, Reese and her magical friends were transported to the mysterious Isle of Brigadoon. They are learning how to control their powers in training and are reading lots of books in the Library. One book especially. Tereo has gone to the Center of Magic but can now answer questions through the form of Reese’s little black book. Everything is going great except for one little thing.

Only magical people can enter the Isle of Brigadoon through magical means. So Emily was left behind and is now being painfully tortured. Ambrose wants Em to be his new vessel but it can only happen if Em is beaten, broken, has no hope left. Ambrose also wants to find the Center of Magic and to do so he is gathering a stunning army. A strange prophecy states that if the team rushes to save Em many will die, but if they prolong her pain only one will die. What will the team chose?

I think that The Isle of Brigadoon is even better than the Center of Magic. I also think that J. S. Fields might be my new favorite author. You can find The Isle of Brigadoon and Center of Magic on Amazon. I can not wait for the third, and last, book in the trilogy to come out. I am so excited!!!!! You never knew if there was a traitor, and if there was, who? J. S. Fields introduced some really cool characters that you had never heard of in the last book. I also adopted my new tagline from his book. Five Stars. Thanks for Reading!!! Have a Great Day!!! -annaleeliz and Buttons

Center of Magic, by J. S. Fields

downloadJ. S. Fields kindly contacted me and asked me to read and review his book and I said yes. Thank You for letting me read your wonderful book. Center of Magic is not available in print but is available on Amazon.

One generation ago the world still had witches and wizards on it. Then the Fiery Death of Magic happened. All magic wielding witches and wizards died when the spell happened. Or so everyone thought.

For Reese, an orphaned girl, living in Mammoth Cave with her cousin Erik and her friend Emily is enough. Everyone enjoys her company and she does not want anything. But when the mysterious traveler called Tereo comes she realizes that she is meant for more. Reese, Tereo, Erik, and Emily go on a journey to the Center of Magic. Will Reese and Erik be able to master their quick enough and will they make it there before the gathering evil strikes?

I loved it. If there was a physical copy of this book it would be Number 1 on my favorites shelf. Center of Magic was so suspenseful that I could not stop reading. Center of Magic was a combination of sci-fi and fantasy. Amazing!! You all should read it right now. I am serious. I think I am going crazy with love for this book. I am so reading the second book as soon as I finish this post. I am so happy I finally have a favorite book. Five Stars. Thanks for Reading!!!
